Special One-Time-Only African Drumming Class for Adults! Intensive Djembe & Dundun Drum

773-251-8067 TO REGISTER! This is your only chance this summer to study with a Konate in Chicago! Billy Nankouma Konate teaches and performs exclusively with Hooked On Drums in the Midwest, and is currently in Chicago teaching his fourth Hooked On Drums youth intensive African Drumming Camp for our kids in two years. Although our organization is dedicated to serving youth, we're opening up a day of his schedule for a special intensive drum workshop for adults 18 and older. In 4 hours, you'll learn at least one complete traditional rhythm from the Malinke people of Guinea, West Africa—all 3 bass drums, echauffements, djembe accompaniments and a djembe solo. Back in our Chicago Djembe Project days, we created this mini-camp workshop format for Billy's father, Master Drummer Famoudou Konate, managing, booking and accompanying Famoudou on North American workshop tours from 2000 to 2004. To take part in this workshop you must call 773-251-8067 to register, no later than Friday, July 16. Leave your number, and we'll call you back and confirm your registration. Bring cash or money order on Saturday to pay your $100 fee. We must have a minimum of 6 students—maximum capacity in our Studio is 21 students. Who is Billy Nankouma Konate? Billy Konate is an acclaimed African Djembe Drummer and the son of Master Drummer Famoudou Konate, from Guinea, West Africa. Billy was born into the Djembe/Dunun drum tradition of the Malinke people. He has learned from and performed with his father and the great masters in Africa from the age of 7. We’ve known Billy since he was 10, and have watched him grow into an incredible drummer and teacher, now in his early 30s. We named our Nankouma youth ensemble after him! He currently performs and teaches in Germany, Guinea, Canada and in Chicago with Hooked On Drums. |
